Melvin the Marvellous Monster from Mars is a game I made for one of my second year university classes with Stephany Lay and Julie Powers during my winter 2010 term.
It is a 2D sidescrolling open world platformer where the main character is an alien that has crash landed his ship on Earth and must attempt to repair it. The player would be freely able to switch between different areas through doorways and such, and there would be an inventory system for storing items you find in the world. The game would also be quest driven in which you must interact with humans to complete your tasks, and would be open to alternate endings.
Unfortunately due to time constraints for the project, it is largely unfinished. Current features include simple ai, animations, player disguises, a few levels to explore, ability to interact with items (although it does nothing), etc. The levels were created with a fully featured level designer, written from scratch using Java (also included in the download). The game itself was designed from scratch using C++ / DirectX with all original artwork. This level designer was also later re-visited, and completely re-designed into Serious Level Designer.
